Are you making an effort to

Go4Green?

Supported by The Green Organisation, Touch Local has launched a

new Go4Green directory to enable consumers to find

environmentally-friendly businesses in their local area.

Touch Local recently conducted a national poll across a sample selection of UK SMEs, asking: “As a business owner, do you feel it is important for your business to be environmentally friendly in today’s economic climate?”

An overwhelming 83% of respondents said yes.

Responding to this demand, Touch Local have partnered with Go4Green to provide an online business finder specifically aimed at businesses that make an effort to be green.

This initiative is supported by The Green Organisation, and registered businesses agree to follow the Organisation’s Code of Green Conduct, pledging to improve and maintain an environmentally-friendly standard in their companies.

This allows consumers to consciously select a business that has promised to commit to good environmental practice.

By choosing to buy from ‘green’ companies, consumers can be sure that they are doing their bit for the environment, and this will encourage other businesses to take a more positive approach to energy conservation, recycling and ethically produced goods.

To find out more, why not visit the directory at http://www.go4green.org

Green certified companies may still create as much pollution

Study show ISO 14001 emissions may be same

Companies with environmental standard ISO 14001 certification may emit just as much air pollution as non-certified companies, according to a recent study.

The results suggest companies see ISO 14001 as a way to appear environmentally responsible rather than to actively improve their environmental credentials.

ISO 14001 is a globally recognised and popular environmental standard: in 2007, 154,517 companies in 148 countries received ISO 14001 certificates. The standard was created in 1996 to help companies create their own environmental management system and performance measures to reduce their impact on the environment.
